Ingredients

  • ¼ cup yellow moong dal
  • 1.5 cups water
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • Pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • Minimal salt (omit for under-1)

Instructions

  1. 1Wash moong dal and soak for 15 minutes.
  2. 2Pressure cook with water, turmeric, and salt for 3 whistles.
  3. 3Blend or mash until smooth (or leave with texture for older children).
  4. 4Heat ghee in a small pan, add hing and cumin seeds.
  5. 5When cumin splutters, pour over the dal and stir.
  6. 6Adjust consistency with water. Serve warm.
